Rest Day in Ottawa! July 17/14

Today was a rest day off the bikes and was spent being tourists in our capital city. We were up early as usual but it was so nice not to be breaking camp and planning where are first food stop would be. The only planning to be done was what direction to start walking. Karin wanted to take a tour through Ottawa's Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica and both wanted a tour through the federal parliament buildings. We started our day with a walk up one side of the Rideau Canal and down the other. I got to watch the locks fill and empty as boats traveled up and down the locks. I found out some of these boaters are called, "Loopers" and travel through the Great Lakes in the summer using the canals to get back to the Mississippi and on to Florida for the winter. We then walked the touristy Spark Street before attending tours through the Basilica and parliament buildings. Then it was pick up some groceries for dinner and tomorrow's bike ride, do some maintenance on the bikes, finish today's blog and, "Ahhhh!" Sleep.
