Collingwood to Orillia July 13/14

Collingwood is one of those places without a campground. Likely the young beach crowd from Toronto that invades the area every summer nixed the cities thought of ever having one so it was time to go into "Stealth" mode. We scoped out a few potential sites and decided on one to come back to after we had something to eat and the foot traffic along the shore line eased up. Once in and set up it was quite undetectable unless you walked up to the end of the short point we were on.

It was a Saturday night and Collingwood is a bit of a party town for young people up from the TO. A group decided to use the picnic table, (The one we are using in the picture) as a bar slash fireworks launch pad slash fight night platform from just after dark to one in the morning. Where was the rain when you really needed it. I kept thinking I could hear them coming up the trail but it was just me being paranoid. And it did rain that night but not until going on for 2am.

First stop of the day was Wasaga Beach. It's one of the longest freshwater sand beaches in the world so it had to be checked out. We arrived at beach #1 about 9:30am and not much was going on other than half dozen or so metal detector dudes doing their thing. Karin and I started talking to a local couple and they said the beach would normally be swarming with the "Unwashed" from Toronto by this time of day but the cool temps were keeping them away.

Our final destination was Mara Provincial Park. $39.55 of "Ouch" for a tent sight.
