Ingonish Beach to Jersey Cove Spit (Englishtown Ferry) Aug 12/14

We've been keeping the daily kilometer totals low through Cape Breton and today's 50kms maintains the trend.

Today was about making memories. Eating wild plump raspberries along the side of the road. Exploring trails that lead to beautiful sandy beaches. Fixing breakdowns on a worn out drivetrain. Ya, the gnome is waring out. First the cassette lockring backed completely off. To fix, all bags come off. Flip the bike upside down. Remove rear wheel. Get hands filthy. Re-install lockring and tighten. Reverse said sequence and your off minus half an hour or so. About 10kms down the road pedaling up a short hill, the chain suddenly have way. Luckily I wasn't standing so no mishaps. Extra chain links and chain tool come out. Remove offending links while getting hands completely filthy again. Install new links and back on the road again. I suspect when the cassette lockring came loose it damaged the chain. Hopefully that's the end of wrenching until St John's when I take the bikes apart and box them up for the flight home.

We camped on Jersey Cove Spit next to the Englishtown Ferry and people were catching buckets of mackerel. I found out they like to smoke the fillets and eat a few fresh.
